Originally part of Gladstone’s historic Tiger Farmstead, this 1890’s former sheep barn has experienced many renovations over the years. No longer useful for agricultural purposes, it remains fundamental to the neighborhood’s sense of place and the town’s distinctive character. In 2016 Melillo Equities acquired the structure, launching a two-phase campaign of repair and adaptation of both structure and site.
Interior preservation work retained original agri-architectural features including hayloft and post and beam framing, while floorplans were modified to support an updated open-floor concept – highly adaptable to practically any future use. To reflect the area’s historically rural context, exterior renovation upgrades incorporated board and batten siding, oversized farmhouse windows, standing-seam copper roof and half-round copper gutters. Lastly, landscaping and hardscaping were redesigned to accommodate additional parking, ADA-compliant sidewalks, tenant playground, privacy fencing and shrubbery.
With full renovation completed in 2021, “The Loft on Mendham Road” has been successfully adapted for childcare, fitness and coworking office uses which serve the community at large.
